For New and Returning Users
For every visit to the NCNR, users are required to do the following in order to gain access to the user laboratories.
- Take the laboratory safety training. The training is a short lesson on general rules and information related to our laboratories. This training is in addition to the health physics training required to access the building.
- Familiarize yourself with the laboratory you are to work in.
- Plan what type of equipment and supplies you will need for your experiment.
For Research Staff
Before accessing the laboratories, NCNR staff will need to do the following:
- Complete the laboratory safety training and quiz.
- If you plan on working with acids, you will need separate training.
- Order a lab coat. Stacey Cochiara or Yamali Hernandez can assist you in this.
- Order prescription safety glasses. Please fill out the NIST-293S form to start the process.
During your time at the NCNR:
- All research staff are responsible for following and enforcing all laboratory rules. If you see a rules violation, it is your responsibility to correct it. If you are unable to remedy the situation, please contact a laboratory responsible.
- You are responsible for the actions of your users while they are on site at the NCNR.
Everyone
Users are held to the following guidelines.
- Safety is our number one priority. All laboratory rules and regulations must be adhered to while in the laboratories.
- A close second is respect for other users and their property.
- Your work area must be clear and in order before leaving.
- Do not move equipment or supplies from one lab to another. There is a supply cabinet in E136 that contains extra supplies.
- The use of some equipment requires 24hr. notice for preparation.
- To use concentrated acids and some laboratory equipment, special training is required in addition to the basic laboratory safety training.
- Our facilities may not have the same environment and equipment as your institution or university but we will do our best to meet your needs.
- If you have any questions, please ask your local contact or one of the listed laboratory responsibles
