Powder diffraction studies of lightweight hydrogen storage materials

WIF David (ISIS, Oxford U)

This talk will discuss recent X-ray and neutron powder diffraction studies of lightweight hydrogen storage materials. While X-ray diffraction data are invaluable for structure determination and parametric overviews, neutron diffraction provides a fuller understanding of the role of hydrogen in hydrogen storage materials. Although with high-flux neutron sources, isotopic enrichment is not required for the elucidation of a single detailed crystal structure, it is crucial for parametric and in-situ studies. Recent results from ISIS will be presented that include in-situ gravimetric analysis of the hydration and ammoniation of Li3N on GEM and the temperature dependent study of ammonia borane on HRPD.
